The Golden Mussel (Limnoperna fortunei) hitchhiked from Asia in the ballast water of cargo ships. This water is collected by ships in tanks to provide stability during navigation, as well as helping with port loading and unloading operations. When the ship arrives at its destination, it dumps its ballast water as its cargo is removed. So they were dumped into our warm waters.
