Shannon diversity indices

P1_I1 arvore

Species diversity is considered to be a favorable aspect of natural communities and there are various indices for estimating it, making it possible to compare the values of different systems. The Shannon index is one of the most widely used indices. It is simply the entropic information of the distribution, treating the species as symbols and the size of the respective population as a probability. In the context of an environmental DNA project, richness refers to the number of species present in the sample, while uniformity is measured by the number of DNA fragments of a species in an area.
