The golden mussel genome was partially funded by Brazil’s first successful scientific crowdfunding campaign. Our campaign on the catarse platform reached the goal of raising R$40,000 in 60 days, with the collaboration of 361 supporters. The reward? Lend your name to one of the genes in the genome.
In addition to the funds raised, the campaign was a success in terms of scientific communication, with widespread spontaneous media coverage, such as the article in Craques do financiamento in Galileu magazine.
Part of the campaign’s success lies in the video that clearly and amusingly tells the story of the Golden Mussel, produced by Mauro Rebelo and Marcela Uliano, with illustrations by Julia Back.
